Interesting read, but terrible example of a cheap offer sheet. You'd likely need to offer $9M/year to have a hope to get Petterson, and even at $9M, the Canucks would likely (begrudgingly) match it. I assume the Canucks are hoping to sign him for around $7M. |

Did you actually read the blog? The only time I mention Pettersson is to state that the Kraken should not target a player like Pettersson with an offer sheet. |

I mean itâs not the worst the idea. Youâve thoroughly peeved St Louis though(for the record I think your deal with them is hilarious). That said I donât see it really biting a team in the off-season unless you overpay more because theyâll just match at those prices with 10% leeway in offseason if they donât think the picks coming back would be worth it.
I think theyâll be even more active than Vegas was in making expansion draft consideration trades though. And with a flat cap for the foreseeable future the potential to fleece quantity and quality assets from teams looking for a specific player to be picked in particular is a lot higher than it was during the Vegas draft. The reason I mention this is because I would think several RFA rights will be included in these deals. And IMO this has a lot more value for their cap space than overpaying low-mid end RFAs by 1-2.5mil and losing a pick or two in the process. |

Touché, apologies for the comment. Yes, I read the blog, but apparently too fast. It sure reads different when you miss the word "aren't". |

I would love the rivalry if teams started weaponizing offer sheets. Clarke wasn't afraid to and love him or hate him, he gave it his best to make the team better by frontloading an offer sheet to a team with financial concerns. Kind of miss that passion and at all costs to improve your team stuff. The compensation on higher end players is too outrageous, If it got dropped a peg there would be more offer sheets. |

In general the use of offer sheets is a fools errand, the team negotiates a contract the player accepts and the current team matches. The team is supplying pro bono contract negotiation services and the resources are better used elsewhere. |

Currently they are rare to work although I have no doubt Patrick could be an interesting target for a team. Requested a trade questionable future but the talent is there Philly might not match and take the draft pics if the term or price is high. I donât see them offering him more than 1m this year honestly |

Not gonna lie, a 2nd-round pick for Nolan Patrick is pretty tempting. |

Whoa, when did you become the best??? I mean you're way better than that loaf of cheese who blogs for the Oilers, but you are no Cloutier, Barry, Tanner or some of the others who are the best. |

What a perfectly-worded question. (I haven't read the article yet...and i'm stoned. But I like the wording). |

Iâm fan of offer sheets generally speaking. I like the action & turmoil & buzz it creates. 1stly the RFA has to sign which in itself makes an OS rare. Next is using a weaponized cap is a strategy that GMâs should find worth exploring.
Will it happen? Slim to none. |

Very interesting readâŠ.the Nolan Patrick one sticks out for me. Reports of him being disgruntled and wanting a change of sceneryâŠ..maybe in a case like this the Flyers let the player go if the Kracken are willing to take a Jake Vorecek contract in the ED or another contract deemed to be hard to move.
Maybe even a trade.
Flyers send Hart, Patrick and Vorecek (through ED).
For
2nd overall pick in upcoming draft.
Anyways, it appears the Kracken are going to be able to build a formidable team from the get go. |

Are you drunk? Hart, Vor, and Patrick for 2nd overall?
A. They aren't trading Hart.. too much invested.. although the 2 goalies in LV are ok if not above ok..
B. Vor would be a salary dump so not getting 2nd overall pick for Hart and Patrick..
C. I m a diehard Flyers fan and think this is just stupid |

Good for youâŠ.your probably one of those idiots that still thinks we are close and going in the right direction. Itâs not like the 2nd over all pick will be a generational talentâŠa good pick sure, but to suggest they have âtoo muchâ invested in Hart is laughable. Get a clue.

The problem with the Nolan Patrick offer sheet is that the player HAS TO SIGN THE OFFER. Patrick is not going to lock himself in at such a low rate for 4 or 5 years.
Why would he?
I am sure he understands he needs to prove himself healthy and capable. He just wants to prove it somewhere besides Philly.
I doubt he does anything more than 1 year. MAYBE 2 if he must. |

I agree with the 1 year deal, but the part about wanting a fresh start in another city has only come from one beat reporter who stated it was speculation before he made the comment. Patrick never said it.
We really donât know what he wants other than a chance to prove he can play. |

Another good blog Sean.
Too bad we donât see more offer sheets, would make for some intense rivalries between GMâs.
Remember Burke challanging Kevin Lowe to a fight over the Pronger os. |

Please take Zach Aston Reese for a draft pick next year. Add in Malkin being out and voila, 9.5 m in cap room. These low dollar singings mean zip. Budget dust between the cushions for these clubs, if they want the player they'll find a way.
